I have opened with this picture as it represents a number of key issues that tie carnival and this whole PaP site together. Carnival is about meeting friends and strengthening bonds. The PaP site is about meeting old friends and fellow ex-PaPierrians in Cyber Space, getting caught up, and renewing old friendships and acquaintances. This was one step better, I was able to meet these two mas' players who just came up to me at the entrance to the stage on Monday and asked "Are you Nigel Darwent"? On the left is Madeline Miller, daughter of Mr.and Mrs.Miller, and on the right Susan Downer, daughter of Prof.Downer. I didn't know either of these two ladies back in those days, but sure new their parents, and in the case of Susan, her older sister Jane and brother John. Can't figure out for the life of me how they were able to find me in that madhouse....very glad that they did, and from all accounts they both enjoyed Carnival and their visit to Trinidad...please come back soon.

This is where it all starts, behind me are the music trucks already playing heavy calypso and just waiting for the signal to start moving. These people are heading to that spot....the excitement is building.

Queen's Park West....just off the stage.....note the carts with their shady umbrellas......these have now become one of the institutions that define carnival on the road. Full of food, cold drinks, some with showers and drinking water, they are pieces of art and there is a certain amount of friendly competition between them. The organization that goes in to the carts is amazing.....they all seem to do well...if there are any problems it is not evident.

Outside the Savannah again...just a typical and exciting general shot.....note the coconut vendor's pile......much smaller by the time the band had passed.
